Hi! I'm Sara, and welcome to my blog!! |
I was born in Los Angeles and at the age of 25 years old I can say that I have been to 34 countries and lived in Los Angeles, England, Boston, New York Italy, and San Francisco. Being on the go has always been in my nature. I suppose I got it from my parents-I grew up always traveling to new, exotic destinations. The best memories of my childhood are the ones of my family and I traveling around Europe and South Africa. I was fortunate that when I was 10 years old my dad's company moved us across the pond to live in a small suburb 20 minutes outside London. Looking back, I believe moving to England truly shaped who I became in high school (back in California) and who I am today.
When I was 17 I was living back in Los Angeles and high school just wasn't for me. I had joined a theater company and spent my time focusing on my acting. That summer I decided to apply to a pre-college acting intensive at Boston University. Guess what? I got in, and I went, and I fell in love not only with the big city life, but also with the idea that I could go to college for acting- an art that I loved. I spent my senior year of high school working a job and acting so I could save up money to move to NYC for college. That fall I was on a plane to NYC where I would attend The New School for theatre arts. Living in Manhattan at the age of 18 years old you see things and experience things that no other college student in the country does. New York City was our campus and the possibilities were endless.
Before I knew it time had flown by and I was applying to spend my junior year of college abroad in Florence, Italy. You can read more about my time in Italy on my Firenze-La Bella Vita page. It is impossible to put into words my life in Italy- it changed me forever. I fell in love with Firenze, with the lifestyle, with the people I met, and with the life I created for myself there...so much that when my study abroad experience came to an end, I didn't leave. I feel so blessed to have had the experience I did- I will forever be grateful for the people I met along the way, my Firenze family. As you may know, I did not exactly have the typical "study abroad" experience. However, I did get the opportunity to travel throughout Europe and was exposed to much more than you read about in your typical study abroad guide. Over the years I was there we went through good times and bad times, laughs and tears, but through it all I had my dysfunctional Florence family that truly molded me and my perception of the world. I landed in Florence not knowing what I wanted in life and came out knowing exactly what I wanted, and that was to see the world. I wanted to travel, meet new people, experience foreign cultures, learn knew languages and exist in the unknown. Travel was my passion.
After studying, living and working in Florence, for what some would say was far too long for my own good, I landed back in NYC. I was a college graduate with no money, no apartment, and no idea what to do with my life. I knew one thing- I wanted a career that would take me to new places and I wanted to travel. My passion for travel lead me right to Liberty Travel (FCUSA) or Flight Centre as it is more commonly known around the world. When I began at Liberty Travel I was not sure if I could handle a desk job, I wanted to be on the go! Yet, immediately I took to the position as I spent my days talking about travel, discovering new countries, and opening the world for those who want to see it (our motto). I believe it was my passion for travel that led me to accomplish so much in just a few years.
Working for FCUSA changed my life and that is what made it so difficult to say goodbye. In February I was offered a position with the adventure tour company, G Adventures. I knew about G from going on their trips and selling them and their company philosophies aligned directly with mine. The position would allow me to be on the road constantly. I had grown too comfortable with my life in NYC. I was happy, loved my job and loved my friends but something was just missing....it was time for a change. Today I am truly a professional nomad and have begun my adventures on the road with G Adventures. This is my dream job and could not be happier.
I started this blog for two reasons- to share my passion for travel, and to share the tales of my travels. Whether it is the best pizza in Italy, or the best airline to travel on to the Caribbean....I will share with you everything I learn and experience as a professional nomad....so stay tuned!
And...if you are you looking for assistance with your adventures and dream vacations send me a message or drop me an email at sweber622@gmail.com and I will be happy to help with your trip whether it be booking a life changing tour with G Adventures or a tricky custom itinerary.
